Our Story
Balanced Aquarium was born from a simple conviction: every aquarium keeper in Arcata deserves access to healthy, ethically sourced marine life and the kind of advice that comes from genuine experience — not a manual.
We started as a one-room passion project and grew into Humboldt County's trusted destination for saltwater and freshwater aquariums. Our doors are open to beginners picking their first tank and seasoned hobbyists building reef rooms. What hasn't changed is our commitment to animal welfare, water quality, and honest guidance.
Every fish that enters our shop is quarantined. Every coral is PVD-certified when possible. And every customer leaves with a plan that actually fits their space, budget, and skill level — not the other way around.
